THE FRONTLINE OF SRHR REPORTING

ABOUT FPNN

The first solutions-focused
SRHR global media network

POWERED BY THE COMMUNITY

The Family Planning News Network (FPNN) is a global storytelling platform that elevates community-driven reporting on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We are a diverse network of journalists, influencers, community reporters, and content creators committed to reporting on the power of SRHR.

FPNN is built on the core principle that the most authentic and powerful way to elevate a story is for it to come from within the community it involves.

FPNN offers training, editorial support, and funding to this growing global network of reporters to uncover untold stories, surface local solutions, and connect grassroots innovations to global platforms.

Through solutions journalism, immersive fieldwork, and digital storytelling, FPNN reshapes not just how SRHR stories are told, but who tells them.

ORGANIC BEGINNINGS.
GLOBAL MOMENTUM.

FPNN was launched in 2022 as a global media fellowship at the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP). Developed by the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health and the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, the model emerged from a search for a more practical and inclusive way to support SRHR media coverage.

While inspired by past media fellowships, FPNN is distinct in its exclusive focus on sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice. From the start, the platform has combined journalism training, small community grants, and community-based storytelling to generate rapid, authentic content from the frontlines of SRHR.

Over the past two years, this start-up approach has produced multiple proof-of-concept projects that are now ready to scale.

UNCOVERING KEY STORIES THROUGH INTERSECTIONALITY

FPNN prioritizes stories often overlooked by traditional media. By embracing the full diversity of the SRHR community, our reporters illuminate under-represented voices in their own languages, channels, and cultural contexts.

Our coverage is shaped by the lived experiences of people across:

  • Geographic diversity

  • Cultural diversity

  • Racial diversity

  • Religious diversity

  • Age diversity

  • Sex/gender diversity

  • Linguistic diversity

  • Neurodiversity Educational diversity

  • Ability diversity

  • and more

THE ICFP MEDIA BACKBONE

As the official media engagement partner of the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), FPNN is redefining how global convenings connect with the press and public. Instead of last-minute media outreach, we take a long-view approach, building sustained relationships with regional media hubs and community outlets year-round.

  • Asia and the Pacific

  • Eastern and Southern Africa

  • Latin America and Caribbean

  • North America and Europe

  • North, West, Central Africa

Our ICFP strategy isn’t just about one conference. It’s about using global moments to strengthen local storytelling capacity in every region.
