By Alexander Chiejina, Nigeria Health Watch

Today marks the conclusion of the 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference (NFPC2024), a transformative gathering aimed at driving Nigeria’s family planning agenda forward. Over three days, the conference has tackled critical themes such as innovative financing, access for marginalised populations, and empowering communities to champion family planning efforts.

In her introductory address, Dr. Moriam Olaije Jagun set the tone for a pivotal discussion on sustainable financing and the importance of strengthening public financial management for family planning (FP). She spotlighted the challenges of securing international funding amidst global crises like COVID-19, emphasizing the widening funding gaps these crises have created.

Dr. Moriam further highlighted the untapped potential of mobilising resources at the sub-national level and the critical role of the private sector beyond traditional corporate social responsibility. “Aligning financial processes with budgets is essential for effective advocacy and ensuring sustainable funding for public health programmes,” she stated.

The conference’s focus on fostering collaboration across sectors aims to accelerate progress toward Nigeria's #FP2030 goals. By prioritising sustainable investments and enhancing community-driven initiatives, stakeholders are laying a strong foundation for improved health outcomes for all Nigerians.

As NFPC 2024 concludes, the commitment to innovative solutions and cross-sector partnerships signals a renewed dedication to advancing family planning in Nigeria. These deliberations pave the way for a more inclusive, resilient, and impactful approach to achieving universal access to family planning services.
